Adele Morse- Artist/ taxidermist
I FELL IN LOVE WITH ANIMALS AT A YOUNG AGE. AT THE AGE OF 5 I FELL IN LOVE WITH TAXIDERMY ON A TRIP TO THE LOCAL MUSEUM. I WAS HOOKED. I DECIDED TO START DOING TAXIDERMY IN 2005 as a hobby. AT THAT TIME THERE WERE NO FULLTIME FEMALE TAXIDERMISTS IN THE UK. I WANTED TO BE THE FIRST. THE SAME YEAR I MOVED FROM WALES WHERE I WAS BORN TO LONDON TO STUDY FOR A BACHELORS DEGREE IN FASHION AFTER STUDYING PATTERN CUTTING AND SEWING FOR 2 YEARS.
AFTER 12 MONTHS I decided to switch TO the fine art course. I was always making animals ANYWAY and wanted to explore this more professionally. I GRADUATED WITH a First class degree(Hons) and felt like I found something I loved DOING. I TOOK A YEAR OUT TO WORK AND EXHIBIT BEFORE APPLYING TO THE 3 YEAR MASTERS SCHOLARSHIP AT THE ROYAL ACADEMY OF THE ARTS SCHOOLS. MY TIME there learning new techniques, materials AND GAINING A THICK SKIN WERE SO LIFE CHANGING. I was still doing taxidermy but I kept my art practice SEPARATE.
I MADE the infamous stoned MEME FOX IN MY SECOND YEAR ...but he was met with a lot of confusion and lived in my studio for 2 years. READ MORE ABOUT THAT HERE..
During my third and final year I GOT HOOKED ON THE SEARCH FOR AN UNKOWN SPECIES OF APE in Indonesia. I BASED MY DISSERTATION AND FINAL INSTALLATION ON THIS.
BY 2013 I had become THE UK'S leading FEMALE CRYPTOZOOLOGICAL researcher. I was asked to TRAVEL TO SUMATRA ON AN 18 DAY EXPEDITION TO obtain scientific evidence of the SPECIES by a DOCUMENTARY team From ARTE EUROPE.
MY FOX WENT VIRAL JUST Before my trip to the jungle SO I SQUEEZED IN TWO ABSOLUTELY INSANE PRESS TOURS in St Petersburg and Moscow.
I had always thought there was only one way to show art and that was to exhibit IN A GALLERY
... but my experience with the fox showed me how wrong i was.
SEEING MY WORK BEING SHARED, ALTERED AND DISPLAYED BY PEOPLE WHO WOULD NEVER GO INTO A GALLERY instantly felt really important to me.
I WENT full time into making animals. IT HASN'T BEEN EASY BUT I HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK FOR AND WITH SOME AMAZING PEOPLE.
IN 2019 I got my original fox back AFTER 7 YEARS APART. I HAVE AMAZINGLY HAD A COUPLE OF MY OTHER ANIMALS GO VIRAL OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS TOO.
I'M DRIVEN BY MY QUEST TO translatE some of the emotionS i see and feel from OTHER SPECIES into a more relatable form. I hope people see my animals out there in thE WORLD and instantly know I made them from the amount of care, detail and personality I put into each one.I HOPE PEOPLE CAN RELATE TO THEM.
I try and incorporate my passions for SEWING, PATTERN CUTTING, SCULPTING, CASTING, MOULDING IN ALL KINDS OF MATERIALS, WOODWORK, PHOTOGRAPHY, WEB DESIGN, ELECTRONICS ,welding, Photoshop, 3d sculpting, illustration, video, and photography in all my pieces and presentation.
I take my work with animals seriously and feel a responsibility to salvage and recycle animals that would usually have been discarded due to their damage OR DISMISSED AS PESTS.
I HAVE BEEN A VEGETARIAN FOR OVER 17 YEARS AND HAVE HUGE RESPECT AND LOVE FOR ALL SPECIES.
no animals were killed to produce anything you see on this website and never will be.
I don't even kill spiders. ANy cow leather used is recyCled as are a lot of other materials.
